Next, let Mr. Editor tell you.
Argon, a colorless and odorless monoatomic inert gas. When used as a shielding gas for argon tungsten arc welding, it has the following advantages.
1. High Density
The density of argon is 1.4 times that of air and 4 times that of helium. It can well cover the molten pool and the arc, and the flow speed is low, so the protection effect is better than nitrogen.
2. Heavy Ion
After argon gas is ionized, the positive ions produced are heavy and have high kinetic energy. The impact on the cathode spot is large, so the oxide film on the workpiece can be removed well (this is called cathode atomization).
Therefore, tungsten electrode argon arc welding is especially suitable for active metals, such as welding aluminum, magnesium, etc.
3. Low Thermal Conductivity
Argon is a monatomic molecule with low thermal conductivity, which has a small cooling effect on the arc. Therefore, the arc is stable and the arc voltage is low.
4. Low Cost
Compared with other gases, argon has low cost and strong practicability.
5. Easy to Generate Arc
Compared with helium, argon is easier to generate arc when tungsten electrode argon arc (tig) welding.
